AMD’s global presence is growing as it is gains momentum in various CPU markets.
Earlier this year, AMD teamed up with notebook manufacturers in China to gain market share in the gaming space. The company’s new family of gaming notebook processors, AMD Ryzen 4000 Series, Renoir, is outselling similar competitor products. In addition, there is opportunity for Renoir to be used in product lines at a few of the bigger PC manufacturers outside of China.
AMD also continues to gain market share in the CPU space due to supply constraints and premium pricing on Intel Gemini Lake and Gemini Lake Refresh products. David Nebbia, Account Manager at Fusion Worldwide, states, “The new Renoir series notebooks have been very successful for AMD. They did a very aggressive launch in China with two PC Manufacturers, and it sold very well. To the point where AMD notified customers that delays would be coming because of how well they have been selling.”
In the server space, AMD also seems to be gaining more market share with its new 7nm EPYC Rome. Companies that were only starting to use a handful of SKUs a year ago, are now using 20-30 SKUs in the server space. Because of this, certain CSP (Cloud Service Providers) are now asking for quotes on AMD. This shift is of note because most CSP providers are using low to mid-tier processors, where AMD can compete on performance and win on price.
The demand for the AMD Renoir series is expected to significantly increase. However, it’s unclear if AMD production plants can keep up and for the AMD Renoir series to significantly increase. However, it’s unclear if AMD production plants can keep up with the fast pace of demand.
